A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO,
ACCEPTING FROM WILLIAM LIPSEY AS A GIFT A
REPUBLISHED ANTIQUE MAP OF THE CITY OF ASPEN

RECITALS
I. William Lipsey has expressed his desire to donate to Pitkin County a republished
version of the Aspen Bird's Eye View" antique map first published in 1893 by Augustus
Koch.
2. The Bird's Eye View antique map is a panoramic perspective view of the City of
Aspen that identifies in beautiful detail the street names and points of interest in Aspen more
than a century ago.
3. The original artist of the Aspen Bird's Eye View map was Augustus Koch (born in
1840) who served as a clerk and draftsman in the Engineers Office of the Wisconsin
Infantry during the Civil War. After the war Augustus Koch made his living by drawing
Bird's Eye View maps of several towns and cities across the country.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Pitkin County Commissioners that
Pitkin County gratefully accepts from William Lipsey, a republished Aspen Bird's Eye
View antique map, under the following terms and conditions:
a) The map shall be displayed in the Commissioners Meeting Room. In the event that
the republished map is not displayed in the Commissioners Meeting room for a
period of six months or more, it shall revert to William Lipsey.
b) A copy of this resolution shall be attached to the back of the republished map.
