OF PITKIN COUNTY COLORADO ADOPTING AMENDMENTS TO THE
PITKIN COUNTY LAND USE CODE: §3-110-130, SIGNS
AND § 8-1, DEFINITIONS SECTION G BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT VARIANCES
FOR SIGNS WITHIN THE ROAD SETBACK AND/OR SIGNS WHICH EXCEED
SIZE LIMITATIONS
ORDINANCE NO. 32-2000
Recitals
1. The Board of County Commissioners (`BOCC") has directed the preparation of
amendments to the Signs (section 3-110-130) section of the Pitkin County Land
Use Code (the "Code").
2. The amendment would allow the Board of Adjustment ('BOA") to grant variances from
size limitations for signs. The draft legislation contains a provision which would allow the
BOA to grant variances to exceed the size limitations set forth in the sign regulations.
3. The BOCC finds that the proposed amendments to the Code will substantially
advance the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Pitkin County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado that the Pitkin County Land Use Code is
hereby amended as contained in Attachment A (amendments to §3-110-130 Sign Code and
§ 8-1 Definitions, Section G Board of Adjustment Variances for Signs Within the Road
Setback and/or Signs which Exceed Size Limitations).
INTRODUCED, FIRST READ, AND SET FOR PUBLIC HEARING AND
SECOND READING ON THE 20 DAY OF APRIL, 2000.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING PUBLISHED IN THE WEEKEND
EDITION OF THE ASPEN TIMES ON THE 29`h DAY OF APRIL, 2000.
APPROVED UPON SECOND READING AND PUBLIC HEARING ON THE
261h DAY JULY, 2000.
PUBLISHED AFTER ADOPTION IN THE WEEKEND EDITION OF THE
ASPEN TIMES ON THE 51h DAY OF AUGUST, 2000.
THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE THIRTY (30) DAYS
AFTER PUBLICATION FOLLOWING FINAL ADOPTION BY THE BOARD.

Repeal and Re-Enact§3-110-130,Signs,Pitkin Coup Land Use Code as Follows:
Subsection 3-110-130 Signs
G. Board of Adjustment Variances for signs within the setback and/or
additional signage
Following the issuance of all other necessary approvals pursuant to this section, and
subject to the standards set forth in section 7-10-030(C)(2), the Board of Adjustment shall
have the authority to grant variances for:
1. Signs located within road and yard setbacks as defined in 3-50-020 and
Section 3-50-050 (Figure 3-1).
2. One additional identification sign on site provided that the total square
footage of both signs does not exceed 10 square feet.
