The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County. Colorado met at
10:00 O'Clo~.k AM, with the following members present.:Chairman Jos. Baxter;
Commissioners T.J. Sardy and Orest Gerbaz; County Attorney Robert Delaney; Peggy
E, Coble, County Clerk
Bills were audited, approved and ordered paid from various fun~?s as
follows:

PRESENT: Commissioners Baxter, Gerbaz & Sardy, County
Clerk Coble and County Attorney Delaney
Mr. Walter B. Mills requested permission to have
curb cuts installed on Lots 1 through 9 West Aspen Sub-
division, filing No. 1, on the basis that he considered the lots
unsaleable where access was restricted to an easement on the
rear. The Commissioners advised they would be unwilling to
change the policy decided upon when the subdivision plat was
originally approved, but if he wished to have the easement
moved to the front of the lots, adjacent to the County Road,
then a replat so showing should be presented to the Planning
& Zoning Commission and the Commissioners for further considera-
tion.
The matter of a reserved easement on the dump site
property was discussed with County Engineer Buchanan, and a
revised map showing such reserved right-of way was examined
and approved.
The Commissioners directed that the County Clerk
solicit bids for gasoline and diesel fuel to be opened January
18, 1968 and also solicit bids from the two newspapers within
the County authorized to publish legal notices.
The Commissioners also discussed a proposal for a
two-cent per gallon tax on gasoline, stating they favored such
an increase because of the greatly increased cost of road con-
struction and maintenance, but were opposed to a formula for
division whereby the municipalities would get the major share
of such increased gas tax.
The Commissioners also inspected the County Jail.
The Commissioners discussed with Mr. Storrs Bishop
the complaints received about a Ski-Doo course near Buttermilk
adjacent to Highway 82, and Mr. Bishop advised he was making
changes to avoid this criticism.

The Commissioners discussed various matters with
the County Sheriff, authorized him to purchase a second-hand
radio at a cost of about $150.00 from the Glenwood Springs
Police Department to be used until new equipment has to be
obtained. The Commissioners further requested the Sheriff
to compile and present from time to time statistics on accidents
on County Roads within the County.
The Commissioners discussed with Mr. John Stern the
County road right-of-way deeded by him to the County along the
course of Brush Creek during the year 1967. Mr. Stern advised
that the road as built did not appear to conform to the map
submitted to him and stated he doubted whether the deed of the
road right-of-way conformed to the road as built. He also
mentioned that erosion might ensue from a culvert under the
road located in Brush Creek. It was stated the County would
study this problem and when weather permitted would meet with
him on the ground for a further discussion of the matter. Mr.
Stern also authorized entering upon his property to perform
any riprapping operations necessary to prevent erosion of his
land by water flowing through the culvert. He further stated he
was concerned that the matter might be detrimental on a dis-
agreement he had with Messrs. Droste-Roper concerning ownership
of land, and was advised the Commissioners were entirely neutral
on this matter.
The Commissioners agreed to meet for the purpose of
reorganizing on January 9, 1968 and discuss informally the various
appointments and matters involved in such reorganization.
The Commissioners discussed with the County Attorney
progress being made on the Coriolanus Corporation vs. The Pitkin
County Treasurer, et al., and approved the report and authorized
proceeding with the litigation on behalf of the County Treasurer
and County Commissioners.
