Foster, ACES Director Re: Letter to accompany application for variance of height requirement of accessory building on AF-1 zoned property. Dates April 13, 1981 The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies recently accepted the donation of a 12x20 foot two story carriage house. The structure will be moved from its present location at 2nd and Hopkins in Aspen to the Center's property (zoned AF-1) in Pitkin County just south of the existing Hallam Lake Barn in the first week of May this year. ACES intends to remodel this building to meet the Coin building code, in order to provide housing for its emp oyees and visiting faculty. It will be designed to aesthetically and architecturally compliment the existing barn, and will in no way interfere with the essential goal of protecting the Hallam Lake wildlife sanctuary. Funds have been raised by ACES to move the structure and build a foundation. The Center is now raising funds to remodel the house at a later date. The building will be an accessory or storage facility until upcoded. It is 20 feet high, and thus does not meet the County's height restriction for accessory or storage facilities on AF-1 zoned property. Therefore, ACES requests a variance on the height restriction from the Board of Adjustments until the building is upcoded. When upcoded, the structure will meet all requirements for a residence. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. /~~ ~~ Benjamin T. Foster z P.O.
